PC repair
Not all repair facilities are equal, even if the claim to do data recovery you should
evaluate their service - do not be afraid to ask and make sure you understand what
they will or will not do. The following are some suggestion:
- Do they charge for an initial Diagnostic Test - HDrevive does not charge for diagnostics
- Do they use a “write blocker” during diagnostic testing and data recovery to ensure
no data is written a problem drive and that sectors are not substituted (unless
a drive is protected - then it may automatically re-allocate bad sectors which may
result in further data loss)
- How much do they charge for recovery and what validation do they do on the recovered
data - fixed cost or is it based media
- How do they deliver your data - DVD’s or new Hard Disk. (note if recovered data is
provided on your original drive - then it will be impossible to make additional recovery
attempts if the recovery was not complete.
- What is their policy if you find that your recovered data is generally corrupted
and not usable.
- What assistance will they provide to help you re associating data files to your applications
(for example email files) is that included in recovery.
- How do they ensure privacy of your data, you may have confidential data on the disk
drive
- Do they test your drive before they return it to you - how certain are they that
Hard Disk is OK
- If the hard disk is not re-usable after successful recovery - will they erase or
destroy it in a secure manner (note: even if they can not recover the drive - someone
else may be able to) - do they charge for such a service
- If the Hard Disk needs to be physically opened - do they have a clean room facility,
(note in most case data recovery can be performed without a clean room - a diagnostic
test is required to identify the nature of the problems)
